WHAT IS ALTRUSA?

Altrusa is an international network of executives and professionals in diversified career classifications, dedicated to improving their communities by personal service. Through their local clubs, members unite their varied talents in service to others. Altrusa is recognized internationally for the significant contributions of its clubs and members.

WHAT IS ALTRUSA'S TRADITION?

Altrusa was founded in April, 1917, in Nashville, Tennessee, for business and professional women. Altrusa developed innovative programs in vocational guidance and public education. The organization, now open to both men and women, continues to adapt its programs and projects to meet current community needs. With extension into Mexico in 1935, Altrusa achieved an international scope. Altrusa clubs are now in 19 countries and territories, with a membership of over 14,000.

HOW DOES ALTRUSA WORK FOR YOUR COMMUNITY?

Altrusa offers a unique opportunity to make your community a better place to live. Each club has its own board of directors, a strong committee system and regular meetings, allowing every member to become personally involved in club projects and decisions. Altrusa International of Lake County, is involved in club projects focusing on Domestic Violence, Literacy, and Scholarships for women needing further education and/or training to enter or re-enter the workforce.
